This is one of the fastest parts of Gauja, it is suitable for one day trips (the river fall is around 5 m, the trip takes around 4-5 hours). The route includes beautiful sights to see from the boat.

This route starts from campsite “Jeņču laivas” (located in the street, called “Gaujas iela 90a”).

Further the route leads us by „Briedīšu” rock which you can see from the river only, not suitable to walk. Half a kilometer from the rock, river Amata meats Gauja. Amata is one of the fastest and most beautiful rivers of Latvia.

Down the river there are „Edernieku”rock on the right shore and „Ķūķu” rock on the left shore. It is not adviced to swim here, as it may be dangerous due to flowing sands.

Near „Ķūķu” rock there is nice resting place suitable up to 20 people. It is not allowed to leave trash there or make camp fire there.

Further  there are several cliffs visible: „Līņu”, „Engurakmens” and „Sprinģu” or „Līgatnes” rock.

Next the route leads us to Līgatne Ferry which is the only remaining ferry across the Gauja river. In the 17^th century there were nine ferries across the Gauja River to ensure convenient communication with Estonia and Russia. In the 20s – 30s of the last century, apart from the Valmiera and Siļķu ferries, in the olden times, such devices were the main way of crossing rivers in Latvia. Līgatne Ferry is the only left such kind of ferry in Baltic States. Before World war II, there was a bridge instead of ferry but it was destroyed in the war.

Near Līgatne there is Līgatne Nature park with more than 5km trails in the forest where people can observe wild animals and birds.

After 3 km there are Gūdu cliffs- up to 18 m high and 250 m wide sandstone rock. After next 1,5 km there are few more rocks again. Coming closer to Sigulda, there will be Turaida castle visible from the river side. The route ends at Sigulda bridge. If you still have some power left, you can have a walk to several caves near Turaida.
